Backstage
About the development of this work and the relationship with the chefs Catalano says, “The project was born from an initial intuition I had while observing the chefs at work. Their mimicry and their way of posing made me think of a visual connection with the typical gestures of some artists, hence the idea: to tell the visual analogy between abstract painting and haute cuisine. I interpreted the ingredients in the form of colors and lines, trying to bring out with lighting the internal nuances of the matter that makes up the food. After all, culinary art is not just about flavor and chefs are fully aware of that. Moreover, I think I gave shape to an image that existed, in a more or less latent way, already in their imagination, so mine, for them, was always a welcome invitation and they collaborated decisively in the success of the project.”
Milan
Milan, March 2013:
Colortaste is presented in an exhibition in Milan on March 11th 2013, in the courtyard of honor of Palazzo Isimbardi, with the Patronage of the Province of Milan, the support of Gabriella Magnoni Dompè and Stefano Guindani Photo, and the curatorship of Paola Ricciardi.
Subsequently, the exhibition is shown in various italian cities, including Cortina D’Ampezzo, where a widespread exhibition involving 14 restaurants and mountain huts is given rise, creating food and wine events with the participation of starred chefs.
Shangai
Shanghai, June 2014:
In 2014, the exhibition is hosted in Shanghai, under the patronage of Shanghai Expo Trade.Co.Ltd, Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai, Expo Milano 2015, Province of Milan, with the support of S. Pellegrino, the support of Gabriella Magnoni Dompè, Francesca Sironi and Stefano Guindani Photo and with the curatorship of Marco Ferri.
On June 3, the exhibition at Lo Shanghai Italian Center is inaugurated and “Tracce di Caponata” made with chef RICCARDO LA PERNA of the 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana restaurant is also presented.
Shanghai, October 2014:
Following the positive reception by the public and the press, the exhibition, also in Shanghai, is hosted at the WORLD FINANCIAL CENTER.
Tokyo
In 2019, the series of large-format photographs that make up the Colortaste project is exhibited in Tokyo, curated by Marco Ferri with the support of Tiziana Alamprese, in collaboration with Alfa Romeo JP, as part of Art of taste, at the Italian Embassy. On that occasion, “Impression of Niigata” made with chef Hideki LI of Shirosaka restaurant is presented.
