Alfonso Catalano is an Italian photojournalist: he was born in Switzerland and currently lives in Milan.
In 1991, he began working as a photographer in the editorial staff of the daily newspaper “Il Giornale di Napoli”, dealing mainly with social news: he realizes photographic reportages related to the complex urban reality of Campania and Southern Italy.
The need to improve and deepen his photographic techniques led him to Milan, where he completed his studies, graduating in photography at the Riccardo Bauer Institute.
He soon joined the staff of the Farabolafoto agency – now an historical archive – becoming one of its leading photographers and beginning to collaborate with periodical publishing
Meanwhile, he also approaches the fashion industry.
In 2004 he won the “Venice Movie Stars Photography Award” at the 61rst Venice International Film Festival.
In 2006 Alfonso Catalano joined the team of, Stefano Guindani’s SGP agency which he is still part of it today Here he uses the eclectic skills acquired in the previous years, developing a strong inclination for reportage, portrait and fashion photography and producing photo shoots for major Italian and international periodicals and for the most prestigious Made in Italy brands.

In 2013, he conceived and realized “Colortaste: La Cucina si Fa Arte,” a photographic project, still developing today, involving leading Italian and international star chefs.
Freeing the imagination and neglecting the traditional culinary dimension, this research gave rise to a limitless creative exploration, inspired mainly by abstract art.
The exhibition “Colortaste” was presented in Milan, at Palazzo Isimbardi and, after several stops in Italy, was hosted in Shanghai at the Italian Center and, in 2019, in Tokyo at the Italian Embassy.
At the same time, he began collaborating with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, contributing significantly to the production of two photo books narrating the Bike Tour: a passionate initiative in support of Cystic Fibrosis research.
In 2020, he published the book “Sarno – The Offended God,” drawing a detailed map of the environmental disaster that turned the Sarno river into the paradigm of pollution. The images have a very strong approach to investigative journalism, but also reveal a refined aesthetic sense for landscape photography. The author guides us through a suffering and compromised territory, but one that still holds ancient beauty and a unique landscape dominated by the imposing presence of Vesuvius.
In 2022, he started the project “Destination Unknown,” an impressive testimony to the fragility of some Alpine glaciers and a stimulating imaginary simulation of possible future scenarios.
In 2024, he made his entry into the world of web3, using Blockchain technology to give selected projects and images an indelible character.
This allows him to firmly fix unique and ever-changing and evolving moments in time.
